NDA Exam Information

What does NDA stand for? 
NDA, National Defence Academy is an Indian military academy that trains young enthusiasts for defence services. It's a tri-service academy where cadets from the Air Force, the Navy and the Army trains together before they head to respective academies for greater understanding in the corresponding forces. 
 NDA exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Registrations for the same happen online on the official website of UPSC. The eligibility criteria are somewhat rigid for this exam, after all, it is dealing with candidates who will be the future protectors of India. 


Eligibility criteria are as mentioned below: 
• Citizen of India  
• Unmarried till the duration of the training, if the candidate gets married after qualifying the exam or during the training period he will be disqualified 
• 12th passed from a recognised board from any stream in case of the Indian Army and for Indian Navy and Air force the candidate should be 12th passed with physics and mathematics. 
• Age limit is 16.5 to 19.5 years 
• The minimum height requirement is 157.5cm for Army, 162.5cm for the Air force and 157cm for the Navy. 
• Physical and mental conditions should be exactly the same as laid down in guidelines of the academy. 


Details to remember:
The NDA exam is held twice a year and the selection procedure is divided into two levels,  
 
  1. Written exam 
This paper further includes two sections namely GTA (General Ability Test) and mathematics. GTA involves questions from various subjects like English, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography and Current Events. The paper is objective and has negative marking for wrong answers. The marking is done out of 900 marks which include all the sections. Both GTA and mathematics sections have a time limit of two and a half hours. 
  1. SSB Interview 
SSB stands for Services Selection Board. The interview also has two levels, in the first level Screening and Psychological test occur whereas the second level involves a personal interview, conference and some remaining tests. This whole procedure is for 900 marks. 


Salary 
Those who make it through the interview are finally admitted for the training. The training cadets get a stipend of ₹21,000 per month during the training period and once they complete their training the amount increases to around ₹55,000 per month.
