International Day of Education 2022: The International Day of Education is celebrated worldwide on January 24 on an annual basis. The year 2022 marks the fourth year of its celebration, for which the theme has been decided as "Changing Course, Transforming Education".

International Day of Education: History

In the year 2018, the United Nations General Assembly had enunciated the celebration of January 24 as International Day of Education to mark the importance of education in establishing peace and development. 59 member states authored the resolution to mark International Day of Education. In addition to this, they also exemplified the steadfast political will to reinforce innovative and transformative actions for delivering inclusive, equitable and quality education for all. This day also focuses on the objective to promote the role and significance of education among everyone.

International Day of Education 2022: Objective

The celebration of International Day of Education aims to fulfill the following objectives:
  1. Following up on measures incorporated to protect education by means of increased inclusion and reduced drop outs.
  2. Laud the steps implemented by governments, organisations, educators and individuals in the direction of education from grassroot level to global level.
  3. Empower the pandemic generation to facilitate their convenience in expressing their aspirations and concerns.
 International Day of Education 2022: Theme

UNESCO has designed the theme for International Day of Education 2022 as "Changing Course, Transforming Education". This year's theme is aimed at welcoming and fortifying the revival of education. The basic objective of this year's theme for International Day of Education is to recover the education level to its usual form. Adding to this, it also emphasizes the need to redress the significance of education for the benefit of upcoming generations.

Education is a tool which can be put to use to achieve progress and growth, but nowadays the access to this tool is profoundly unequal due to the digital divide. The Covid-19 pandemic brought the digital divide to notice when all schools, colleges, universities and other academic institutions shut their doors and switched to the online mode of learning.
