Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday dedicated India's indigenous development-- Anti-Satellite System to the nation.

A-SAT is a system of advanced technology, which reflects the military strength of any country in space.

Here are the few of the points about this system:

- This weapon is used in space, primarily used to destroy the satellites of enemy countries used for military activities.

- Currently, A-SAT systems are available near the US, China and Russia. With the test of A-SAT today, India has become the fourth country in this line.

- The US was first to develop such kind of weapon in 1950. In 1960, Russia also developed this weapon. 1963 The United States tested a nuclear explosion in the space, due to this trial many satellites of the United States and Russia got impacted. After this, the Outer Space Treaty in 1967 was decided that no explosive weapons will be deployed in space.

- Apart from India, the Israeli A-SAT Satellite is in the process of developing. Dr V.K. Saraswat, Director General, DRDO said during a program in 2010 that he had all the necessary things to develop A-SAT. Israel's Arrow 3 or Hz 3 Anti Ballistic Missile is there, which some experts believe that it can be used as an anti-satellite.

- More than 80% of US communications and navigation systems are based on satellite. Through them the US keeps an eye on the whole world. The need to develop such satellite is essential to protect these satellites. However, till now no A-SAT system has been used in any war. Many countries have tested them to kill their own lost satellites, which includes China as well.
