Class 5 and 8 Students can be detained: Cabinet Approves to Scrap Out The No-Detention Policy

The scrapping of the ‘no-detention policy in schools upto class VIII’ has been approved by the Union Cabinet.

Exams for class V and VIII will be conducted by the states, students can be detained if they fail in the exam, the proposal was approved on August 2, 2017.

The other opportunity will be given to the students to pass the examination before they get detained if they fail the exams.

The policy no-detention policy used to promote the students to the next grade till class VIII automatically.

The key components of the RTE Act which came into force on April 1, 2010.

However, Tamil Nadu and Telangana are not in the favor of this proposal.

The bill will now be forwarded in the parliament for approval.
