I always wanted to be an IAS officer: Nandini K R, UPSC topper 2016

New Delhi

Nandini K R, hailing from Karnataka, has topped the UPSC Civil Services 2016.

"I always wanted to be an IAS officer," the topper told India Today during an interview.

Nandini, who bagged the top position in her fourth attempt, reiterated that the one thing she learnt was that UPSC tests the basic level of knowledge and how to bring about innovations in our day to day life.

While nearly 10 lakh candidates apply for the Civil Services Examination every year and half of them take the exam, this year, just 1,100 got through but only 180 of them will get the coveted IAS.

The UPSC civil services exam 2016 result was declared on Wednesday evening.

Anmol Sher Singh Bedi is the topper among male candidates securing overall second rank.

Ronanki Gopal Krishna from Palasa in Srikakulam district has bagged the 3rd rank.
