The Supreme Court has directed the university to conduct admissions on the basis of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) instead of NLAT 2020. The CLAT 2020 examination is scheduled to be held on September 28, 2020. The court has also directed the authorities to conduct the CLAT 2020 entrance exam in accordance with safety guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Further, the apex court has also instructed the authorities to announce the results for CLAT 2020 exam at the earliest so that the universities may start their academic year by mid-October.
A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan gave the order on a petition filed by Professor R Venkata Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and guardian of a candidate, in which they have challenged NLAT-2020.
