The exam conducting body decided for the postponement of the exam after the petition was filed at the High Court of Madras on regional language issues. The court said in an official statement that KVPY Exam 2021 could not be conducted only in English and Hindi as it would be unfair for the students studied in regional mediums. The Centre must also take appropriate steps to conduct national-level fellowship examinations in regional languages.

After the completion of the healing process, the High Court ordered the exam authorities to revisit their decision and to come up with a solution to the concern. The court has also informed the Centre regarding the regional language concern and said to postpone the exam till a solution is found.
