Govt seeks views on increasing age for induction in IAS
The Centre has sought views from state governments on increasing the present age limit of 54 for induction of state service officers into IAS and IPS among others.

At present, maximum age limit for consideration for induction into three all India services - Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) — is 54 years as on January 1, of the year for which the select list is prepared.

Some of the state service officers had challenged the maximum age limit of 54 years before the Supreme Court mainly with the contention that the same should be increased as retirement age in the central government was increased from 58 years to 60 years.

"Therefore, considered views of all stakeholders viz. state governments, cadre controlling authorities i.e. ministry of home affairs, ministry of environment, forests and climate, state civil service, non-state civil service, state police and forests services officers and their associations are invited latest by December 30," the department of personnel and training (DoPT) said in a notice.
