The Uttar Pradesh government has banned any hike in school fees for the upcoming academic session 2022-23. This decision has been taken in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and related troubles faced by the earning member of the family. As per the UP government direction, the schools in the state will charge a fee from the students as per the academic session of 2019-20. This comes into immediate effect for all the boards and educational institutions.

This decision has been taken for the second time in a row. Last year in 2021, the same instructions were given to the schools because of the prevailing pandemic situation. In this regard, a directive has been issued to all the schools in the state by the additional chief secretary, secondary education, Aradhana Shukla.

The UP government and its officials have taken this decision to save parents from the trouble of payment of the hiked fees in the pandemic situation. A government official said that “All schools in the state affiliated to CBSE, ICSE or UP Board will not be allowed to increase fees for the academic session 2022-23. The schools will only be allowed to charge fees which were applicable in the year 2019-20.”

A letter dated 7th January was circulated to the director of education, the secretary, secondary education, along with the divisional education director and the district inspectors of schools. According to the letter, if any schools are found violating the rule of the ban in fees hike then strict actions will be taken against the school.
