Higher Education in India: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued new rules regarding the appointment of Assistant Professors in all higher education institutions. Now, for direct recruitment of Assistant Professors in higher education institutions, NET/SET/SLET has been made mandatory as the minimum qualification criteria. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification in this regard.
The notification, issued by UGC Secretary, Professor Manish Joshi on June 30, 2023, has implemented the new rules from July 1, 2023.
Meanwhile, UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadish Kumar tweeted that a PhD will remain an optional eligibility criterion for individuals aspiring to become assistant professors in universities and colleges.
