PM Modi in Shiksha Samagam: Apart from bookish knowledge and classroom hours of practical and laboratory work, credit, i.e., marks, will now be given on the basis of innovation lab, class projects, assignments, tutorials, sports, yoga, physical activity, music, dance, social work, and NCC.
PM Modi to Launch 100 Books in 12 Indian Languages
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch 100 books in 12 Indian languages related to science, humanities, and social sciences, prepared by the University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar informed that the Ministry of Education is organising a two-day summit called All India Education Samagam at Pragati Maidan on the occasion of the third anniversary of NEP 2020. The Prime Minister will inaugurate this conference.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate an exhibition depicting New India based on changes in technology, skill development, innovation, research, etc. Professor Kumar stated that, similar to engineering, from this year on, undergraduate and postgraduate students will also have the opportunity to study in Indian languages. Some of the books are ready, while others are in the process of translation. Learners are at the core of the NEP, and its recommendations will directly benefit them.
Marks to be Given in Addition to Book Knowledge
Apart from bookish knowledge and classroom hours of practical and laboratory work, now marks will be given based on performance in innovation labs, class projects, assignments, tutorials, sports, yoga, physical activities, music, dance, social work, and NCC. Assessment will include examinations, classroom tests, quizzes, and field visits in skill education, as well as internships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and experiential learning.
Four-Year Degree Programmes to Be Started in Universities
Jagdish Kumar said that, starting with the upcoming academic session 2023–24, all universities will offer four-year degree programmes. Students will have the option to study any desired course along with their degree, with an entry-exit facility during their studies at their convenience, which includes skill development, startup, innovation, research, internships, and placements. This means that students can now choose their own path of learning and career options according to their talents and interests, with the option to study courses of their choice along with their degree programme.
