The Delhi cabinet has recently approved the proposal to pay the CBSE examination fee of around 3.14 lakh Class X and XII students from 2019-20.

The scheme would cost the government Rs 57.20 crore a year.

The proposal of the Department of Education was approved by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the cabinet chair.
This scheme is a big step for the government for the students and the education sector.

As per the statement of the government "The scope and coverage of the decision are to give complete subsidy to students towards the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination fees".

Under the proposal, the DoE will remit the examination fee. "It will include the fee payable towards the practical examination of the science stream and vocational subjects of Class XII," it added.

The government had announced that it will pay the fees following fee hike by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) notified last month. The fees for general category students for classes 10 and 12 was doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.

The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students who were paying Rs 375 earlier will now pay Rs 1,200 for five subjects. In a special arrangement for the national capital, the students were paying Rs 50 only while the rest of the amount was paid by the Delhi government as subsidy.

The assessment of students of Classes III-VIII and IX and XI is being done through centralised examinations conducted by the DoE as mid-term and annual examinations. Assessment of Class X and XII students is done by the CBSE.
