NEET UG 2024: The central government has filed a new affidavit in the Supreme Court, refuting claims of any irregularities in the NEET exam. Opposing the demand for a re-examination, the government stated that the detailed report from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras indicates that "there is no evidence of widespread irregularities, nor are there any unusual scores among the candidates."

As per the Supreme Court's directive on 8 July, the Ministry of Education requested the director of IIT Madras to conduct a comprehensive data analysis of the NEET results for the entire group of candidates. The institute conducted an analysis for the top 1.4 lakh rank holders in NEET.

The report was prepared using criteria such as distribution of scores, city-wise and center-wise rank distribution, and distribution of candidates' scores within score ranges.

IIT Madras utilized Python for data processing, PostgreSQL for data storage, and Metabase for analysis, after gathering data and information from NTA as per the requirements for data analysis.

NEET UG: Analysis of NEET results

  • No Irregularities: The distribution of scores graph depicts a bell curve shape typical of large-scale exams, indicating no anomalies during the examination.
  • City-wise Analysis: The institute analyzed results city-wise over the past two years to detect any irregularities. The report states, "This analysis is sufficiently detailed to indicate any irregularities."

NEET: Increase in scores

  • Overall Score Increase: There has been an overall increase in scores obtained by students, particularly within the range of 550 to 720 marks. This increase has been observed across various cities and centers, credited partly to a 25% reduction in syllabus.
  • No Local Manipulation: Rajasthan's Sikar has the highest number of 55 candidates in the top 1,000 ranks, followed by Kota with 35 candidates and Kottayam with 25 candidates. This is attributed to the presence of coaching centers in these cities.
  • Center-specific Insights: The analysis highlights that there has been no significant increase in the number of toppers at any single center. Specifically, Patna, where CBI is investigating NEET paper leaks, shows a negative trend in toppers compared to the previous year.
  • Center-wise Figures: According to center-wise data, the maximum number of candidates getting into the top 100 in both cases is 2. It is noted, "If there had been any local irregularity, this number would have been much higher."
