With the objective of highlighting the tourism potential of northeast region in domestic and global markets, three-day International Tourism Mart began today at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.
Organised by Tourism Ministry, the mart will showcase the varied topography of the region, its flora and fauna, the ethnic communities with their rich heritage of ancient traditions and lifestyles, festivals, arts and crafts. Besides northeast, West Bengal is part of the event.
“We hope that the mart will promote the region to be holiday destination,” said a senior Railway Ministry official. The mart is expected to bring together the tourism business fraternity and entrepreneurs from the eight northeastern states. It has been planned and scheduled to facilitate interaction between buyers, sellers, media, government agencies and others.
Delegates from 27 countries have been invited to participate in the mart.
The northeast region comprising Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, and West Bengal are endowed with diverse tourist attractions and products.
