Former Finance Minister of India Arun Jaitley Passed Away at 66

The Former Union Finance Minister of India Arun Jaitley passed away today, August 24, 2019.


He was born on December 28, 1952, at New Delhi. He completed his academic studies from St. Xavier's School, Delhi from 1957–69. He graduated with an honours degree in commerce, BCom from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi in 1973. He cleared his LLB degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, in 1977.

He held many senior positions in the Union Ministry while being a member of the central government. 

Here’s the list of some senior posts held by the Late Shri Arun Jaitley in the Vajpayee government and Narendra Modi government:
- Minister of Finance, 
- Minister of Corporate Affairs,
- Minister of Defence, 
- Minister of Commerce and Industry
- Minister of Law and Justice
- Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India

From 2009 to 2014 he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He was the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Government of India from 2014 to 2019. Due to health issue Arun Jaitley decided not to join the Modi Cabinet in 2019.

He was the Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India. Jaitley had been practising law before the Supreme Court of India and several High Courts in the country since 1987.
In January 1990, Delhi High Court designated him as a Senior Advocate.
He was appointed as Additional Solicitor General by the V. P. Singh government in 1989 and did the paperwork for the investigations into the Bofors scandal.

Earlier on August 09, 2019, he was hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi under critical condition after complaining of "breathlessness".
On August 17, it was reported that Jaitley was on life-support. 
A few days later on August 23, it was reported that his health has deteriorated.
On August 24, Arun Jaitley passed away at the age of 66.
