Cognizant Becomes Country's Second Largest IT Company to Employ More Than 2 Lakh Employees

In the field of IT sector Cognizant has become the second IT company to have 2 lakh employees in India. Cognizant is a US-based firm with most of its operations taking place in Bengaluru. 

It has globally employed over 4 lakh employees of which nearly 2.9 lakhs employment is related to India.

Comparing the total employment, presently Cognizant is the country's second-biggest whitecollar employer. 

According to the media reports, Cognizant CEO Brian Humphries informed the firm that they have over 2,00,000 lakh employees in India and that the Indian arm of the tech major is a "jewel" that is a "hub of our global delivery, solutions and innovation".

The IT giant Cognizant's headquarter is located in the US. It is also the biggest MNC employer in India.

As per the MNC companies data, TCS is India's biggest IT company with more than 4 lakh employees in India. Infosys also has a headcount of more than 2 lakh employees in the country but less than Cognizant. Among other IT companies, Accenture employs 1.7 lakh people in India, IBM about 1.2 lakh and Capgemini 1.08 lakh.

As per the media reports, Cognizant has provided employment for more than 66,000 in the past 5 years.

This comes amid reports that Cognizant is likely to lay off many employees to cut costs. 
The company laid off a group of middle-level employees in May, while the company is looking at more ways to reduce its expenses.
