CBSE: Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now have to set up a composite skill lab. CBSE has made it mandatory for schools to set up this lab. Schools seeking fresh affiliation with the board will be required to set up the lab with the necessary equipment and machinery. While schools already affiliated to the board will have to set up a composite skill laboratory with all the necessary equipment and machinery within a period of three years.
CBSE believes that the preparation of this lab will help in promoting entrepreneurial abilities among the students. It has been observed by the board that at present many schools lack the necessary facilities and equipment to provide effective practical training. In such a situation, the matter was discussed in the recent Board Management Committee meeting and it was made mandatory that all the schools affiliated to the board should set up a comprehensive skill lab with all the necessary equipment and machinery to effectively implement the recommendations of the National Education Policy and National Curriculum Framework School Education (NCFSE).
The board has directed the schools to set up a comprehensive skill laboratory (lab) of 600 work feet area or two separate labs of 400 square feet area for classes VI to XII. The board says that the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (National Curriculum Framework) have significantly focused on enhancing skill education especially for students from class VI to X. NCF advocates setting up of well-equipped skills laboratories and vocational training centres within schools.
