Abhinandan To Be Conferred with Vir Chakra; Here's Detailed Information on Other Gallantry Awards

After the Pulwama attack, Indian Air Force gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. Even after this, Daring Pakistan did not stop and sent its F-16 fighter jets to attack Indian military bases on February 27.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman of Indian Air Force not only had a battle with Pakistani fighter jets from the MiG-21 Bison but also shot down an F-16.
To appreciate his bravery the country has announced to confer Abhinandan Varthaman with the Veer Chakra on Independence Day 2019.

For exceptional bravery and courage in battle and sometimes in peacetime, Military Personnel is honoured with the gallantry award. Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Vir Chakra and Shaurya Chakra are given.

But do you know which Chakra is given when? Here we will tell you:
 
Param Vir Chakra

The largest gallantry award is the Paramvir Chakra received in the army. This award is given to those soldiers of the army who have done the daring act of bravery and valour with self-sacrifices in the presence of the enemy. The Paramvir Chakra is given for performing daring in the war period.
Paramvir Chakra is made of bronze and has a round shape. Above this, four replicas of 'Indra Vajra' remain with the emblem of the embossed state in the centre. This Medal is given with purple-coloured lace.
 
Mahavir Chakra
Mahavir Chakra is the second major honour for bravery. It is given to military personnel who show extra courage on air, water or land in the presence of the enemy. Mahavir Chakra is also given for bravery, manifest valour or sacrifice during the time of war. This is the second-highest honour of bravery after Paramvir Chakra.
This medal is made in a circular shape of silver metal; this medal is given with half white and half orange coloured lace. It has a five-cornered reviews star on the top.
 
Vir Chakra
This award is given for the gallantry shown in manoeuvring the enemy in battle. It is also given to show courage in wartime. This model is made of silver and also has a revived star with five corners. It is given with half blue and half orange-coloured lace.


 
Ashoka chakra
This is the greatest honour given for courage in peace. This chakra is given by the President. Earlier it was called Ashoka Chakra Class-One. It is given by a green vertical line with a green ribbon divided into two equal parts.
 
Kirti Chakra
Kirti Chakra is awarded for gallantry and valour as well. It is a gallantry medal given in peace. It is made of silver metal spherical. It is given by a vertical line of orange colour with a green ribbon divided into three equal parts.
 
Shaurya Chakra
The Kirti Chakra and the Shaurya Chakra are the only two categories of the Ashoka Chakra. It is given to demonstrate valour in times of peace. Its medal is made of bronze, which is given with three vertical lines of dark colour with the ribbons divided into equal parts.
