Ranchi University was established on July 12,1960. This university was established as a teaching-cum-affiliating university. The headquarter of this university is situated at Ranchi the capital of Jharkhand. At present, the University runs its academic courses for its five districts namely, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga.
Ranchi University since its inception has been on the top to fulfill the ever increasing demands of higher education. Keeping pace with changing times, the University today offers vocational courses. The students with poor background family For the less who hail from the scheduled tribes or scheduled castes, are being given the special coaching classes and are engaged to prepare them for competitive examinations. The university is running with the motive to provide higher education to the students who want to pursue their education from the university.
The syllabus for main stream courses in science, humanities and commerce too have been upgraded to meet the requirements of University Grants Commission(UGC). In sports and cultural activities to the University has carved a niche for itself. It has made its presence felt at the all India level in cricket, hockey, football, and athletics. Regular cultural activities at the college and the university level are an integral part of the University's academics calendar.
