In a bid to improve the health sector services, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved 45 more PG seats for Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faidkot.
While World Health Organisation (WHO) report pointed out staggering 70% of Indian rural population has minimal access to health care, parliamentary standing committee on health repeatedly raised concerns about vacant positions of doctors and healthcare workers in rural areas.
The MCI has also decided to remove age restriction for candidates appearing for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017.

"The oversight committee felt such limitations will reduce the number of doctors in the country. The Union Health Ministry agreed and suggested recommendation to us. We have passed it," said MCI vice-president Dr CV Bhirmanandham.
