In a bid to promote sports, the announcement of reducing the syllabus by 50% from 2019, a games period will be mandatory in schools, Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore welcomed the HRD Ministry decision.
Rathore said, “We have come to a stage where education is no more a part of education but it is education itself. There will be a sports period on a regular basis as the Ministry of education is making it sure to reduce the syllabus in schools by 50%”
“By 2022 we are ensuring that the SI reduces its manpower so that sports can be catered. It has a lean body and that the money is spent on sports. The government of India will pump about Rs 7-10 crore to the 20 specialized sports schools which are being planned this year. To keep the schools focused the idea is to have a pointed approach to have only 2-3 main sports in each school” he stated.
By unveiling the Webb Ellis Cup, the Union Minister also welcomed the Rugby World Cup 2019 trophy tour in India. This was carried in the presence of World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper, Asia Rugby President, Aga Hussain, actor Rahul Bose, and Rugby India President Numazar Mehta.
Sports Secretary, Rahul Bhatnagar, SAI DG Neelam Kanpur, and IOA secretary, Rajeev Mehta were also present.
Rathore Expressed, “In the run-up to the World Cup, we welcome the Webb Ellis Cup. India will be within the 18 nations that the Rugby World Cup 2019 Trophy Tour will visit and we are happy to see that”.
The two-year Trophy Tour aims to engage and excite new and existing rugby fans ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019.
Next, it will travel to Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar as it is the first time the Rugby Tournament will be played in Asia hosted by Japan.
