Mid-day meal to be served in Madrasahs imparting mainstream education

The Centre is allset to provide Mid-day meal in Madrasahs imparting mainstream education acrossthe country.

“The Madrasahswhich provide mainstream education like science, maths, we should help them,give mid-day meal there. We took a decision week ago,” said Union MinisterMukhtar Abbas Naqvi, while addressing the annual conference of state minoritiescommission.

 While theconference was attended by the National Commission for Minorities chairmanNaseem Ahmed, its member Praveen Davar and NCM secretary Amrender Sinha, Mid-daymeal scheme is a school meal programme of the Government of India designed toimprove the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide.


Under the scheme,every student in every Government and Government aided primary school will be serveda prepared Mid-day meal with a minimum content of 300 calories of energy and8-12 gram protein per day for a minimum of 200 days.

In September 2004,the scheme was revised for Central Assistance for Cooking cost @ Re 1 per childper school day to cover cost of pulses, vegetable cooking oil, condiments andremuneration payable personnel or amount payable  to agency responsible for cooking.
