Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said his government has prioritised education and allotted nearly Rs 1000 crore for the sector.

Replying to a debate on the Governor's address, Sangma said, "We have allotted nearly Rs 1,000 crore for the education sector. But this is not enough as the financial burden in this sector is high."

He said the government has also set up a task force to study the education policy and it is expected to submit its report within three months.

"We have to inculcate their love for the subject when they were young," he said, calling on the parents and society to also play their part in this sector.

On the safety of women and children, the chief minister also called on the society at large to change their mindset first and foremost.

Stating that awareness camps and meetings need to be held to ensure that women get their due respect, Sonowal said a number of measures were taken by the government to ensure safety and security to women and children.
