While the NTA will convert its 2,697 test practice centres into teaching centres from next year, the online registration process for UGC-NET 2018 and JEE-Main will also commence on September 1.
Registrations will continue till September 30.
“The plan is to take these centres beyond just practice tests and turn them into teaching centres. They will not charge any fees and so will be especially helpful for talented students from sections where aspirations are high but private coaching is impossible due to financial constraints,” said an official of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Benefits of Free Coaching
Practice centres will allow candidates to take mock tests for JEE Main only.
Registered candidates will get to sit for the tests.
The free coaching will help students facing financial constraints.
NTA will establish a network of test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam.
Any student can use the facility free of charge.
Role of NTA
The engineering and medical entrance exams JEE and NEET would now be conducted online and twice a year by the newly formed NTA.
NTA would also conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test(GPAT).

Till recently, the CBSE conducted the NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected Cities of spread across the country.
From December 2018 onwards, the UGC- NET (for Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor
both), will be conducted by the NTA.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN will be conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards.
JEE Main is applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board.
Aspiring students will sit for a mock test for the JEE-Main that is scheduled for January 2019.
