Representatives of 25 companies including Axis Bank, TATA, Toshiba, Nokia, L &T, Walter Thompson are participating in the workshop that was organised by Jamia Millia Islamia’s Placement Cell.
Inaugurating the workshop, JMI Vice-Chancellor, Talat Ahmad, today said that the university was imparting modern, futuristic and employment-oriented education. Talking about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the setting up of the university, he said that his emphasis was on employment generating education and the university was adhering to it.
The participants felt that with the technological upgradations happening every five years and new technology taking its place, employers look for new skill and knowledge. Therefore, they said it was necessary to keep pace with the fast changing technologies.
Rihan Khan Suri, Training and Placement Officer, JMI said that the university was making all-out efforts to ensure that a maximum number of students get placements as they finish their education. He said that enhancing employability was the need of the hour for the country and career orientation has become an important factor to prepare students for future challenges.
Citing a report, he said that the global economy was expected to witness a skilled manpower shortage to the extent of around 56 million by 2020 and this provided a window opportunity for India as far as employment is concerned.
