The award, carrying a cash prize of USD 3000, is presented every year by the Honda Motor India Pvt Ltd to students for their academic brilliance and contribution in guiding society towards an ecotechnological orientation, an IITKGP statement said.
The three award-winners were Piyush Nanda, Bindu Sancheti and Ayan Majumder, the statement said.
Sancheti ranks second among dual degree students of chemical engineering and is among the top five percent students having been offered a major change owing to her outstanding performance in the first year, the statement said.
Majumder too is currently ranked second among dual degree students of mechanical engineering in the institute.
Nanda, a third year UG student of biotechnology, had won the IconSWM Excellent Paper Award, 2016 at the Sixth International Conference on solid waste management organized by Jadavpur University.
He had also won the first prize for his presentation on 'Green Chemistry for Sustainable Future' during the International Year of Chemistry, 2011.
The three students have won commendable international and national recognition for their work in ecotechnology and bagged summer internships in renowned institutions on the basis of their work, the statement said.
The Y-E-S award makes them eligible for the second stage of the process, or the Y-E-S Award Plus, which assures them a credit-granting internship programme by a Japanese company or a research institute and an opportunity for further studies in Japan, the statement said.
