Hostel Vs Home: A Matter of Self Dependence
campus
Most of us believe that we become more independent when we leave our houses and start living our life on our own.

The feeling of independence is a very difficult and emotional task initially when you move out of your home.

‘Home is where the heart belongs’ yes it is true to everyone, there will be hardly anyone who will oppose or want to move out of their comfort zone.

Here students shared their views over ‘hostel life’ and ‘Homelife’ while getting into a college.

“ Definitely ‘homesickness’ is way tougher than it sounds, but for us who have come from a small town like Ajmer has to take this step because our town does not give us the opportunity of our own choices. To build up a career we had to move out of our place to join this new life” Student living in a DU Hostel.

Everything has its pros and cons. While we talk only about the number of colleges and an increasing number of courses. We somehow forget that there is a major concern of distance, security and of course accommodation.

Big towns have immense facilities whether in terms of good institutions or commuting facility.

Aspirants living in this state do not have to think about a lot about their accommodation, distance or other related things, because you have everything around.

But the problem arises when you are from another state and moving to another for EDUCATION.

“I just have to manage about the distance from my place to the university, other things are taken care of as I have my home in the same city, I do not have to think about spending money on accommodation or meals but when I think about moving to another city I will have to think about it, till then I am enjoying my new college life and focusing on my studies” DU Student living in NCR and travelling to DU every day.

What are the pros and cons?

1. Time and Distance: Since you are living in the university hostel you do not have to spend money on the transport thus the travelling time and money gets safe in this factor.
Whereas, there are students who are living in their homes have to manage time and distance as their homes are not nearby to their colleges.

2. Independence: Whether in terms of home or hostel the factor of independence somehow is nowhere. As there is a fixed timing where you have to be in a hostel after that you are not allowed, whereas at homes you have to inform your parents about your whereabouts.

3. Food: we all have some friends who continuously tell you about the Hostel ka khana (Hostel food) how it tastes pathetic and we know at home you will get whatever you want from your “maa ke hath ka khana” (Homemade food).

4. Aware: last but not the least factor is awareness, you become more aware of yourself and learn management while living away from home. Managing everything from washing your clothes to making your bed you do everything on your own and hence become self-dependent.
