Whenever we hear Goa a very beautiful picture of beaches comes into our mind and we automatically imagine the aroma of spices, the festal winds on the seashores and the views of seeing the sunny weather that appears in the Arabian Sea.

But did you know that God was not a part of India before 1961?

Let's see know Goa deeply and move towards the history of it.

As we know, that India was liberated in 1947 and today's "one" India is one due to the relentless efforts of some of our freedom fighters, which was scattered in various princely states after Independence.

It was Sardar Patel, whose geopolitical intuition caused the small 562 princely states to be consolidated into the Indian Union.

This is why Sardar Patel is also called "Bismarck and Iron Man of India".

But there were also some provinces where the colonial roots were so deep that for many years of independence they were not part of India, one of them was Goa, where the Portuguese had been ruled for almost 450 years.

How did Goa become part of India?

Even when India got independence in 1947, the Portuguese's state was still established there.

Even though repeated requests were made by the Indian government, the Portuguese were not ready to leave the area and go.

Satyagraha was also done against this empire in 1955, but the Portuguese still chose to demonstrate cruelty and made 22 targets from their guns.

At that time Immediate Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on 19th December 1961, operated Goa's military operation which was known to be Operation Vijay, because of which Goa got merged into the Indian Union.

Governor General Vassalo E Silva of Portugal surrendered before Indian Army Chief PN Thapar.

According to some historians, it is said that the military operation, Operation Vijay, lasted for more than 36 hours and on 19th December 1961, India became successful to liberate Goa.

Later, the Portuguese army surrendered before the Indian Army without any condition on 19th December 1961 and Goa got independence.

Goa got the status of Indian State on May 30, 1987, but 'Goa Mukti Diwas' is celebrated on 'Dec. 1' every year.

Despite its small size, Goa has been a big trade center since its inception.

Because of its location, it has been attracting the British from the very beginning and also holds a very deep history.
