A fragrance chemist conducts research to develop appealing scents for consumer products that include household products and cosmetics.
They must have a great sense of large variety of fragrance, ingredients and there smells, to be able to distinguish each of the fragrance ingredients alone and in combination with other fragrances.
These scientists often work in research labs of corporations, simulating the consumer experience creating user friendly fragrances and testing the chemical components within the functionality of the product.
They develop formulas to produce different smells and also add fragrance to everything from automobile air fresheners, antiperspirants, cleaning, laundry, personal care products etc.
These professionals must follow correct procedures to prevent the risk of any safety or health hazards.
Some of the commonly used ingredients are fruits, flowers, oils, resins, plants and wood etc. rose is commonly used. They can be involved in the study of smell, which is known as olfaction.

1. Masters in perfumery and flavour technology
2. One yr course in aroma and its management
3. Two years post graduate diploma course in perfumery and cosmetic management
Eligibility:
Degree required –Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree may be preferred.
Education field of study- Chemistry, cosmetic or pharmaceutical science, microbiology.
