Engineering Will have to do Three Internships: HRD Minister

Engineering students across the country will now have to do at least three internships during their course.

The aim is to improve the employability prospects of the engineering students. The responsibility will be of colleges to provide internship to the students.

Around 56% students graduated from engineering colleges were unemployed in 2015-2016.

Moreover, the teachers will also have to undergo mandatory refresher course annually, till now the summer internships was only followed by few engineering colleges.

“The students in technical institute should undergo through three internships each is for Four to eight weeks before the students completes there Undergraduate courses.

The institute will help students to find an internship suitable for them,” stated Prakash Javadekar, HRD minister told Lok Sabha. 

Also, engineering institutes’ teachers will have to take up online courses offered on government’s SWAYAM portal. 

“Teachers in each of the technical discipline will have to undergo through an annual refresher course through SWAYAM portal (Massive open online course (MOOCs)), sums up all advances in the field of study," he added.
