With November 8, 2018 marking India's second anniversary of Demonetisation, examiners are busy preparing questions for the upcoming competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC and Banks Exams.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's overnight ban on higher currency notes two years was a key step to formalize India's economy.
Students appearing for UPSC or other national level competitive exams are likely to answer questions related with noteban.
Let us have a look on the cause and affect of Demonetisation.
PM Modi scrapped existing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8, 2016.
He made the controversial announcement during a televised speech delivered.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) spent Rs 7,965 crore on printing of new notes.
The RBI date pointed out that 5 lakh 22 thousand 783 fake notes were detected during 2017-18.
The central bank revealed that its earnings decreased by 23.56 percent in the financial year 2016-17.
RBI says that 8.9 million notes of 1,000 rupees not yet returned to the banking system.
In the Annual Report of the Financial Year 2017-18, RBi said that by the end of March 2018, 37.7 per cent increase in circulation increased to Rs 18.03 lakh crore in value terms. In terms of numbers, percentage of increased notes in circulation was 2.1 percent. This shows that the purpose of the Government to focus on digitization and low-cash economy (the cashless economy) behind the ban was not fulfilled.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) reportedly said that in the financial year 2017-18, the tax collection increased to a record of Rs 10.03 crore.
