Centre has allowed Tripura government to go ahead with the appointment of Under-Graduate Teachers (UGTs) without conducting Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), a mandatory provision of Right to Education Ac, the assembly was informed here today.
School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty while replying to a question said that the department had received a letter from Addl Secretary of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) allowing one-time relaxation of TET.
However, MHRD did not give its consent to the minimum qualification of getting appointed as UGT, another obstacle in filling up 4629 posts.
While the act prescribes senior secondary pass-out should be the minimum educational qualification for the job, the state government has been advocating for Madhyamik pass or equivalent.
“We have written another letter to the Ministry relaxation of minimum educational qualification for UGT job,” he told reporters.
Chakraborty said the process for appointment of 4629 UGTs is in final stage and the department would start releasing offers at the earliest.
