The scholarship will be provided to 500 students from India said Alan Gemmell Obe, the Indian Director.
The council will provide a scholarship in 44 UK universities to 500 Indian students for academic exchange programme this year.
The scholarship has been availed by a total of 105 women from India so far from the Council to study at the university in the UK. This includes six women from North East he said.
“We hope many more students grab the opportunity to avail the scholarship provided by the Council from Arunachal and other North Indian states” Obe stated.
He also mentioned that there was a significant increase in the VISA application by the Indian students over the last few years.
He added that it’s an indication that there are many students from India who are more interested in studies in UK universities.
According to the British Council director stated: “to inspire people from India as well as Britain to create a bond for the next 70-years, this is our mission.”
The council is also getting into an agreement with North Eastern Council (NEC) through MoU next year.
Soon in partnership with NEC, the council is planning to organize a conclave of North East education ministers in New Delhi.
“The conclave will be a platform through which the education ministers of all the regions to discuss issues and their solutions. The discussion will be made on the issues related to education as well as providing the solutions to them” said the director of the British Council.
“Working in the schools of North East we want to develop real expertise as we believe the role of teachers helps in transforming education”, he added.
As per Obe, "it is also a cultural field where the artists from North East are being promoted through the council. Including Tashi Lama 12 artists performed from Arunachal in a video which was made accordingly for the same.
