A permanent campus of the Dr B R Ambedkar university would come up near Dhirpur in North Delhi on a 93-acre plot, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today. She said the campus will help students from nearby localities.
“We are committed to improving the educational infrastructure in the city. The permamnent campus of the university will come up on a 93-acre plot,” she said.
Dikshit was speaking after launching a project to lay sewer lines in Gandhi Vihar area under Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency.
The university was established by the city government in August 2008 and it has been functioning from the Indraprastha University campus at Kashmere Gate.
Identifying shortage of housing as a major challenge facing the city, she said around five lakh persons have been coming to Delhi every year in search of employment opportunities.
“In order to address the shortage of dwelling units in Delhi, the city government has been constructing low-cost houses,” she said.
She said laying sewer lines in the unauthorised colony will go a long way in providing a clean and healthy atmosphere in the settlement.
