Government on Monday said National Council of Education Research and Training has amended some textbooks after objections were received from certain quarters about its content.
A reference was also received regarding the alleged use of derogatory words in the Hindi text books of class I, VI, IX and XI of the NCERT.
These were examined by the Committee headed by Prof Yash Pal and suitable changes were made in the text books based on its recommendations, Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor said.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, he said NCERT had informed HRD Ministry that at times writers express themselves in such words in their text to reflect the realities of the contemporary society. Such expressions are to be taken in totality and not in isolation.
