Odisha Governor S C Jamir on Thursday asked teachers and students of Berhampur University to take a new year''s pledge to make it one of the best educational institutes in the country.
“The resolution for making Berhampur University the finest university is necessary as not a single university in the country has got a place among the best 200 universities in the world,” Jamir told a programme to mark the 48th foundation day of the university.
Stating that most universities in the country were lagging behind in quality, he said he wanted to build an university in the state to become a role-model for others.
“Commitment of the teachers, discipline among the students and ideal academic environment in the campus are needed to achieve the goal,” he said.
“We have sufficient potentials, but we lack determination to reach the goal,” the governor said.
He inaugurated a central conference hall and a new academic block in the campus. The conference hall and academic block were constructed with the XII plan of the University Grants Commission.
The university has signed a MoU with the National Institute of Rural Development and Eberhard Karls University, Tubingen in Germany exchange programmes and collaborative research.
