Dutch varsity ties up with Presidency University
Selected students of the Presidency University here can now head to the Netherlands for an internship, an official said Thursday.

As per an agreement signed between University of Groningen, one of the oldest varsities of the Netherlands, and India's premier educational establishment Wednesday, three science students and one from the humanities stream, are set to go for the 10-month internship.

"As of now the number stands at four but we are trying to increase it to six students...three in science and three in humanities. The host university will take care of the tuition fees, boarding and all other expenses," Presidency University Vice Chancellor Malabika Sarkar said.

Further, research collaborations in both science and humanities are on the anvil.

The 196-year-old institution, earlier known as Presidency College, marked its first convocation Aug 22 post its upgradation to a university in 2010.

Presidency University has its roots in the Hindu College, established in 1817. It was christened Presidency College in 1855.

The previous Left Front government in the state upgraded it as a university in 2010.

Its alumni include Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Subhas Chandra Bose, Satyajit Ray, Marxist leader Jyoti Basu and India's first president Rajendra Prasad.
