A proposal to set up Xavier University in the private sector was approved by Odisha Cabinet today.The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gave the nod for Xavier University as per the decision taken by a committee headed by the chief secretary.
The proposed university will provide higher learning in engineering, technology, banking and financial services, humanities, social management, law, natural science and vocational education and training and development studies.
The proposed university would be a private self-financing institution of higher learning for imparting professional and technical education, chief secretary B K Patnaik told reporters.
It will have greater flexibility for interaction with other institutions related to industry, trade and commerce.
At least 33 per cent of the total number of seats in each of its course will be reserved for students of Odisha, subject to their meeting minimum qualifying standard for the admission tests and interviews.
A Bill in this regard is likely to be introduced in the Winter Session of the Assembly which commences from Tuesday, official sources said.The Cabinet also approved enhancement of remuneration for block grant school teachers, enhancement of salary of chairman and members of the Odisha Public Service Commission and Staff Selection Commission, the sources added.
