Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has turned down an offer from the Himachal Pradesh University here for conferring an honorary doctorate degree on him.
"I believe people are giving me a lot of honour and I don't want to get honour in this way," the chief minister told reporters in Shimla Monday.
He said he was offered an honorary Ph.D. degree but he refused to accept it at the May 24 convocation to be presided over by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Official sources said the university in 2011 conferred an honorary Ph.D. degree on Congress leader and union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla.
