PIL on MCD Educational Institutions: HC Seeks Centre, LG Replies
The Delhi High Court today sought responses of the Centre and the Lieutenant Governor (LG) on a plea seeking directions to them to perform their statutory duties for ensuring that educational institutions run by the municipalities do not suffer for lack of funds.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath asked the authorities concerned to file their affidavits, by August 24, with regard to the plea which has said that the arrangements made by the corporations to provide primary education in the national capital "may shortly collapse given the deteriorating financial health of the municipalities", said a PTI report.

The court has sought the stand of the government on a PIL by NGO Society for Abatement of Ill-governance which has urged it to direct the LG to implement distribution of funds between Delhi government and the three municipalities here.

It also sought directions to the Centre to appoint an independent regulator for ensuring that distribution of funds between Delhi government and the municipal bodies are done as per "constitutional scheme of devolution of funds".
