The Madras High Court Bench here today directed the Tamil Nadu government to file on November 18 a detailed report on toilet facilities in the institutions.
Referring to a report submitted by the school education secretary in response to a PIL on the matter, the court said it was not sufficient on various aspects and directed him to submit a detailed report.
The court gave the direction during the hearing of the PIL filed by one C Anantha Rajan, who said 15.45 per cent of schools were lacking toilet facilties in the state as per a Union HRD ministry report.
The petitioner has submitted that there was no cleaning staff in many schools and sought a direction to the district collectors to form a committee to study the ground situation and ensure all schools had toilet facilities.
The court had already appointed advocate commissioners to visit Dindigul, Thanjavur and Madurai districts to inspect the toilet facilities and file a report.
