President Pranab Mukherjee will hold a first-ever conference of Directors of the Natioanl Institutes of Technology (NIT) next month here to discuss and the overall pedagogy of these learning centres.
The conference, to be attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ministers in the Human Resource Development department, will see thirty NIT directors participating in the deliberations on November 7-8.
The President is a Visitor to these institutes spread across the country.“The agenda of the conference includes steps required to improve the quality of technical education and faculty development in NITs to bring it on par with the top technical institutions of the world and steps needed to create inter-linkages of NITs with the industry.
“Steps required to use National Knowledge Network effectively in the NITs and suggestions to improve the visitor-NIT interface within the existing statutory framework of each NIT will also be discussed,” a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhawan said.
The UGC will also be represented in this conference by its Chairman, the statement said.
