Students securing top rank for admission in dentistry through the coveted of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) a test jointly conducted for MBBS and Bachelor of Dentistry (BDS) for all seats in India have opted for Jamia Millia Islamia’s (JMI) faculty of dentistry.

Amongst the first five to opt for BDS amongst central universities, three have opted for JMI in preference to BHU and AMU, which have been providing dental education for many decades.

Of the students who have preferred to study at JMI’s faculty of dentistry, the highest ranker this year is positioned at 5130.
In 2016, the highest ranker opting for JMI was ranked at 12,106. It is worth noting that the first 5000-odd rankers prefer MBBS course over dentistry.

The candidates’ have chosen JMI over many other many prestigious colleges including Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi and King George’s Medical College, Lucknow.

Students are said to have given preference to JMI because of the university’s high ranking in MHRD’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and it being awarded ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
JMI has been ranked at the 12th position among 100 universities surveyed in the country

JMI’s Faculty of Dentistry started offering BDS program from the year 2009 by conducting its own entrance examination. Since last year, admissions are being done through the all-India examination, NEET conducted centrally by CBSE.

Many of the Dentistry faculty’s alumni have cracked All India level examinations for post graduation including one who has joined the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) this year.
