Counting of EVM Votes: This Is How It Is Done In India

Keeping result of assembly elections in five states, December 11 is kind of special. Counting of votes is going on since Tuesday morning. Who will come in the power in these states -- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram, the decision of this is imprisoned in the EVM.

Let us tell you how the votes are counted from the EVM and how it is decided in 2 minutes whether the count of EVM is accurate or not.

14 counting tables, 14 EVMs in one round
According to the rule of law, the counting of votes in the presence of candidates and their agents is under the supervision of the Returning Officer of the constituency. Votes can be counted in one place or more or at the same place together. There are 14 counting tables at the voting centre, and at a time more than 14 EVM votes are counted. Each candidate nominates the counting agent for the protection of his party's interests and for monitoring.


Not everyone has permission to visit
Yes, everyone not allowed at the place where votes are counting.  Only the returning officer at the counting centre, the candidate with the election agent, the counting agent, the government servant appointed on duty and the agents of the authorized EC are allowed to enter.
First postal ballot count is counted
Electronic voting machines (EVMs) are examined by counting staff and agents before the counting begins. Firstly, postal ballots count then after 30 minutes EVM votes begin counting.

 
Agents get 2 minutes time
The most important for the candidate or the agent is that 2 minutes are given after the end of the round one. Yes, actually, the returning officer stops for two minutes after every round. During this time the candidate or election agent can ask for re-count. After this, RO decides whether the request is valid and it works accordingly. That is, if the candidate's agent expresses satisfaction, the voting will go forward, otherwise, the recount will be done.


Once started, it is only after the end
After the correct counting decision, RO requests approval of the supervisors and declares the result. The Returning Officer gives the results to the Election Commission and the appropriate authority. Counting of votes begins at 8 a.m. and runs till then until it is completely over.


These rules apply to security
There are many types of strict laws and regulations applicable to counting booths. In view of security, these rules should also be known -
- It is forbidden to carry a mobile phone inside the counting hall.
- In addition to the general supervisors, a micro supervisor is appointed on each counting table.
- There is a three-level security system on and around the counting booth.
- Central forces are deployed inside the counting booth.
- The local police are deployed in the outer circle.
- To prevent the entry of any unauthorized persons, the forces of other states are deployed around the booth.
- A senior magistrate is also posted at the entry gate of the counting booth.
- No vehicle gets the entry in the 100-meter area around the counting booth or premises.
