The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is all set to start the online application process for General Duty (GD) constable recruitment in various forces on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. However, the registration will end on August 24, 2018. 

The SSC will select the candidates based on the performance of the recruitment exam. The recruitment exam will be computer-based and the Commission has not fixed a date for it, read the SSC notification. 

How to register?
The simple steps to register SSC GD constable recruitment exam as follows: 
Step 1: Visit ssc.nic.in. 
Step 2: Go to the notification mentioning registration for Stenographer Grade C/D Exam 2018. 
Step 3: Read the instructions carefully and apply. 

Selection process
Written, Physical and Medical Test.

SSC GD Exam is conducted in three phases. If the candidate qualifies for all the three phases then he will get posts like Constable General Duty in BSF, SSB, CRPF, NIA, CISF, SSF, ITBP, Rifleman in Assam Rifles. These phases are mentioned below:
 
Phase 1: - Physical Standard Test/ Physical Efficiency Test
Phase 2: - Written Exam (Objective type)
Phase 3: - Medical Test

SSC GD Physical Standard for Male Candidates
Height - 170 cm
Chest - 81 (Unexpanded), 85 (Expanded)
Race - 5 km in 24 minutes
Long Jump - 14 feet (In three chances)
High Jump - 3’9’’ (In three chances)

SSC GD Physical Standards for Female Candidates
Height - 157 cm
Chest - There is no chest measurement for female candidates
Race - 1600 meters in 8.30 minutes
Long Jump - 10 feet (In three chances)
High Jump - 3’ (In three chances)

About SSC
The Estimates Committee of the Parliament, in its 47th Report (1967-68), recommended the setting up of a Service Selection Commission for conducting examinations for recruitment to lower categories of posts.
Pursuant to this, and as an interim measure, an Examination Wing was initially added to the Secretariat Training School, subsequently renamed as the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM).

The Staff Selection Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training and comprises of Chairman, two Members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations who are appointed on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the Central Government from time to time. 

Functions of SSC
To make recruitment to 
(i) all Group “B” posts in the various Ministries/Departments of the Government of India and their Attached and Subordinate Offices which are in the pay scales the maximum of which is Rs.10,500 or below and 
(ii) all non-technical Group “C” posts in the various Ministries/Departments of the Government of India and their Attached and Subordinate Offices, except those posts which are specifically exempt from the purview of the Staff Selection Commission.

To conduct examinations and/or interviews, whenever required for recruitment to the posts within its purview. The examinations would be held as far as possible at different centres and successful candidates posted, to the extent possible, to their home State/Region.
