Railway Defers NTPC and Level 1 Exams, Constitutes Committee to Probe the Matter Amid Students' Protests
RRB defers NTPC and Level-1 Exams - PC : My Result Plus
After facing outrageous protests by the candidates in regard to the result of the RRB NTPC CBT-1 exam, the Railways has deferred the conduct of NTPC and Level-1 examinations. As a lot of ruckus had been created by the students in terms of the result announced for the RRB NTPC CBT-1 Exam, the Railways has constituted a committee to probe the matter. A Railway spokesperson informed of the postponement of RRB NTPC and Level-1 examination on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

The Railway spokesperson continued his statements by saying that the constituted committee would begin probing on the basis of complaints filed by those who have qualified the examination, as well as the ones who failed to qualify the exam under various Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). He added that after hearing both the sides, the committee will submit the report to the Ministry of Railways.

Earlier, on Tuesday, January 25, the Railways had issued a general notice which stated that those candidates aspiring for a career in Railways would be prohibited from joining, who are found guilty of violent and illegal activities during the course of the protests.

It is noteworthy that the students' protests were agitating day by day. In Bihar state, incidents such as stoppage of trains and jamming of railway tracks by protesting students were coming to light. In addition to this, the Police had to resort to lathicharge and tear gas firing, when the protests of the candidates turned fierce. An FIR has also been lodged against 500 unidentified protesters in connection with this case.

Why are students protesting?

On one hand, the protesting students have asserted that the recruitment process has allowed candidates with higher qualifications to unfairly compete for jobs that are meant for one with lower qualifications. Many of them contended that while one candidate could qualify only from one region, the result list displays that one candidate has been declared qualified from two to three different regions.

They further stated that 20 times the candidates were to be declared qualified on various zone-wise posts in CBT-1 examination, but instead, considering the number of posts in different slots, 20 times the candidates have been declared qualified for each slot separately. Due to this, the actual number of candidates who have qualified the examination has been reduced to just 5-6 times instead of 20 times, which is now causing resentment among the students. Due to this, only a limited number of candidates will now be able to appear in the RRB NTPC CBT-2 Exam.

Railway's take on the allegation:

On the other hand, the Railway Recruitment Board has stated that the selection of 7 lakh different candidates for the RRB NTPC CBT-2 exam was not mentioned anywhere. A candidate can be selected for more than one level on the basis of his/her eligibility, merit and choice. Thus, among the seven lakh candidates, the names of some candidates will appear in more than one list, but during the final selection process, the candidate will be recruited only on one post.
