The major change comes as a part and parcel of the New Education Policy (NEP), which has modified the rules of pursuing PhD that were issued last in 2016.
As per the new UGC rules, women researchers, who need to relocate to another city owing to marriage or other reasons and desirous of continuing with their PhD degree over there will be able to do so. For the same, all the terms and conditions shall be taken into account, to resume the research from the newly-shifted location.
In addition to this, all the work carried out by the candidate will also be transferred.
The research scholar (candidate) will also be required to give the credit of her share to the parent institution or supervisor.
It is noteworthy that the UGC has earlier too, been considerate towards the female candidates, as they were provided an extension of two years to complete their respective research work. Additionally, for maternity leave and child care leave, they also had as many as 240 days of leave.
Moreover, according to the new gazette released by the Commission on November 7, 2022, employees or teachers who wish to carry out research and pursue PhD shall be able to do part-time PhD. Notably, earlier, the teachers or government servants had to apply for study leave from their department for carrying out research work.
