School Boards to Introduce Uniform System: Important Details

If the consent of the states is obtained, then the names of all the boards in the country will be different, but their functioning will be the same. Students will benefit the most from this initiative. The first national-level meeting on assessment, involving the Ministry of Education, PARAKH (National Assessment Center), and states and union territories, was held under the chairmanship of Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy.

Opinion Sought from States on a Uniform System

Opinions are being sought from states on a uniform system. PARAKH has been established as an organization under NCERT, with the aim of bringing school boards from different states and union territories onto a common platform. In the first meeting, the Ministry of Education and PARAKH discussed school evaluation, examination methods, and the need for uniformity across the country. The opinions of all states have been requested on the implementation of a uniform system for their respective 60 school boards. Currently, students face a disadvantage due to the different examination and evaluation methods employed by various boards. While some boards produce excellent results, students from other boards do not receive priority, even if they have higher marks. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, CBSE, NCERT, NIOS, NCVET, NCTE, State Education Secretaries, State Project Directors of Schools, SCERT, and state examination boards from across the country.

Students to Get Benefits Due to Equalisation of Examinations and Evaluation

The equalization of examinations and evaluation will benefit students. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of School Education, Government of India, emphasized the need for equality among all school boards. Presently, there are approximately 60 School Examination Boards operating in different states and union territories. However, due to the different examination and evaluation methods employed, students suffer. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an integrated framework.

This will create a uniform system for students across different boards and regions. It is necessary to align curriculum standards, grading systems, and evaluation methods to enhance the credibility and recognition of certificates and grades obtained from these boards.
