The decision has been made to reduce the syllabus and textbooks from the next academic year 2022-23 by the National Council of Education Research and Training, NCERT. This decision has been taken in light of disruption caused by COVID-19 in progrssive learning of students. The syllabus and textbooks will be reduced for all the classes from the next academic year.

Recently, the cases of COVID-19 have surged all across the country and the new strain Omicron has resulted in continuation of online learning. The students faced difficulties in understanding a range of topics from the textbooks through online mode of learning. As per the media reports, the director in-charge of NCERT, Sridhar Srivastava, on 15th December, suggested the directors to conduct a review regarding the matter with a panel of experts. The reports were supposed to be submitted by 28th December.

As per the latest updates, the directors have also been asked to send the textbooks with revised syllabus for publication. The revised textbooks based on National Curriculum Framework, NCF 2022, are likely to be available from the academic session 2023-24. “Though we are in the process of making our National Curriculum Frameworks, the development of new textbooks may take some time to come out,” said director in-charge of NCERT, Sridhar Srivastava.

He adds that to continue the learning process of the students, it becomes important for NCERT to take a step ahead for rationalisation of textbooks and syllabus from the next academic year. The students must check all the latest information related to NCERT to stay updated.
