CBSE Skill Development Program: Details

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a Skill Module Initiative in line with the National Education Policy 2020, aiming to provide students of classes VI to VIII with opportunities to develop skills in various areas. The board is conducting webinars to make students and teachers aware of these new modules, which will run until May 19, 2023. The webinars are available on CBSE's YouTube channel.

The CBSE has introduced various skill modules, including Handicraft, Coding, Financial Literacy, AI, Design Thinking, Digital Citizenship, Herbal Heritage, Blue Pottery, Bakery, Khadi Block Printing, Mask Making, Kashmiri Embroidery, Food Preservation, and Mass Media. These skill modules are of 10-15 hours duration and are completely optional.

The CBSE has also clarified in the webinar that schools do not need laboratories or special subject teachers for these skill modules. It is left to the discretion of the schools to teach these modules through eco clubs or even on days when the bags are not required. Teachers will internally assess these modules, ensuring that students acquire practical skills that will help them in their future careers.
